Pipe Bursting in Noosa
Relining Solutions was approached by Dormway in association with Unity Water to find a solution for a historic illegal sewer repair. In the upmarket suburb of Sunshine Beach surrounded by multimillion dollar properties and backing onto a nature reserve a 150mm PVC sewer main was damaged 12 years prior. After a lengthy investigation in was determined that, the former homeowner of the affected property, had contracted a pool builder to install a swimming on the corner of his block. Whilst excavating the footings the contractor broke the main and replaced a 4 meter section with 100mm, creating a natural choke point in the line. The repair lasted for 11 years but was discovered after clean and CCTV crews got their jet head stuck on the upstream side of the repair. After several days spent recovering the stuck equipment the repair was damaged in the process and all structure integrity was lost. Due to the site topography a conventional spot repair wasn’t an option as the area is also prone to landslides and a slip had occurred recently. Pipe bursting was elected as the right methodology to rehabilitate the main, but the use of a static bursting machine was required as the use of a pneumatic hammer was deemed too risky due to the vibrations generated. The site also wouldn’t allow for the insertion pit to be in its conventional location and had to be moved upstream of the top manhole. All necessary equipment had to be tracked in one by one over 200m, in stages to complete the works. the job was completed in two days with all parties very satisfied with the successful completion of the tricky repair.
